Just need you guys to check if I'm normal, or if I'm the only driver in Singapore with such feelings.
- When I drive, I feel a weird affinity with the person driving behind me. If he or she dumps me for the faster lane on the right, I tend to get a little upset.
- There's an implicit sense of fairness on the road. If I've already given way to one motorist, don't expect me to give way to you - I've used up my benevolence. Try the next guy behind me.
- If you're one of those drivers who like to zoom past on the free lane and then try to cut in at the last possible moment, forget it. I wish I could get everyone in the proper line to collaborate on keeping you out of the turning lane.
- I often mutter "wish that guy would hit a tree / wall" when I see motorists driving recklessly. I think a solid tree or wall would take the hit better than innocent pedestrians.
- I hate BMW drivers.

Lol. Definitely have to agree with your first point.. plus whenever I drive around, I'm still quite proudly sporting my "L" plates.. so I get even more annoyed when I'm doing the best I can yet the car(s) behind me start horning or overtaking. Ugh, local drivers can be horribly inconsiderate sometimes can't they? ;p
1. Yup. And the affinity grows if the guy behind me is following a little too close for comfort. And I get more upset if he overtakes me to the left! (I travel on the right-most lane most of the time)
2. Ditto. Sometimes it extends to 2 drivers, depending on my mood
3. I tend to accelerate to cut off idiots like that... which technically makes me an idiot too.
4. For me, it's wishing he hits another car and spins off the road, hitting the same tree that you are thinking of!
5. hey hey hey, BMWs are fine. I can't stand drivers in non-turbo cars thinking they are driving an EVO or a WRX.

yes, you are normal.. and i agree with you on point no. 3, 4, and 5.. for on. 5, not only do i hate BMW drivers (no. 1 on my list), i also hate taxi and bus drivers...
As a driver, you have at your disposal a powerful weapon to discharge on such maniac road users. It is called THE GLARE.
I was inflicted once with this powerful punishment when I forgot to signal my intention to filter (even tho i was travelling at 10km/h at a carpark) and the driver behind me overtook, pass by, and just enough time to give me THE GLARE!!! Aaargh...I was struck hard by the hateful glare....I did not drive for the next 3 days just to recover from that fateful incident. Now I am perfecting my GLARE technique to be used on errant road users...the recent victim being a dog whom I nearly hit...he was glared senseless.I think.

I agree with you on points 1-3.
As for point 4, I try to remind myself that the person could be in a hurry (urgent appointment, emergency, full bladder and so forth) because there's really no point in getting angry with someone you've only encountered for five seconds of your life.
I don't have anything against drivers BMW or any particular make, but second-rate sports cars with neon light fittings and other appendages, zooming off into the night with pumping techno music, irks me somehow.

i agree with points 1-3!!! =) though i'm sometimes guilty of zooming past and then relying on the goodwill of people to allow me to squeeze in later... Beemers are alright with me, but not taxi drivers and idiots in slow, lau pok ka-s that hog the right most lane!
I hope you still aren't mad at me, if you are at all. (I'm either being self absorbed or insensitive here).
But striking an emotional chord, I HATE Beemer drivers.
They all seem to think they're Sandra Bullock in Speed and if their damn cars go under 130km/h they'll explode into an incandescent fireball or summat.
Don't judge all BMW drivers like that lar.. my bf drives a BM and he's a safe driver!
erm....Yi, my KGB spies tell me that your bf drives a mitsubishi as the default mode of transportation, while the beemer's the backup car. So technically, he isn't a BMW driver and hence the BMW-idiot law stands. :)
Hey Felix, no I'm not mad at you. :) Hard to be mad at something big enough to pulverise me into the pavement. Hope everything's going great for you. You should have been there though...it was a great IRC meetup. :)

Funny, You hate people on BMW motorcycles? That is a BEEMER a Bimmer is a car. BMWs are small practical cars compared to an anemic detroit coal burning dinosaur like an SUV...I say focus on the real problems. my 84 BMW 318i has 300.000 miles on it, has very low emissions and gets 30 miles to the gallon. Lets see a ford excretion last that long or burn that clean.you want to free up the roadways? set your SUV on fire!!!
