What a Trooper
Thank you, thank you, thank you. For all the text messages, instant messages over MSN / ICQ / Yahoo and blog comments. I’m not lying when I say I almost lost my mind on the way to the hospital.
All I knew then was her hand was quite badly injured, and all these questions fill my mind. What if she can’t use her hand? How is she going to heal, knowing how much she likes to hit / throw / swing stuff around? A million questions a minute, all waiting to be resolved when I finally see her before she goes under general anesthetic and gets stitched up.
I’ll be honest and admit that who to blame and what to blame whomever for was quite at the forefront of my train of thought. I didn’t know if I could forgive fast enough, or if I’d say something I’d regret later on when I got to the scene.
The first thing I saw when I got to the scene was

Anne was walking around the whole emergency department, waving her good hand at whoever she met. The first word that came to mind was “undaunted”. At 14 months, this girl was showing more spirit than I’ve possessed in a long time.
She’d even wave her bandaged hand.

It was really unsettling to see her receive the anesthesia and go all glassy-eyed and limp. It was so scary to see all her energy, vibrance and fire tamed into an unnatural docility. Faith and I left the treatment room. I wasn’t sure if I could take much more of seeing my girl lying there motionless with her eyes still open. The visual enactment of a primal unspoken fear was too real.
Here’s Anne after getting her stitches, now sleeping from the effects of the anesthesia.

We’re home. Anne’s sleeping. And we don’t know how to get her to drink the horrible tasting antibiotics she’s supposed to take.

Hang in there man!
I saw your poor kid's photos via flickr via my Sidekick phone and showed them to a friend. Long distance sympathies from us! Hope she gets well soon :)
Kids are amazing; they're made out of rubber. Fingers crossed that she'll be good as new before you know it. Your psychic scars, on the other hand, may take a little while longer....
:) the young ones are highly resilient. a family friend's youngest boy got his last finger almost totally severed off in the playground - it got caught in something. and boy, was he brave. and he wasn't even 2yrs old yet. and everytime after that, he gave a big bandaged pinky-wave along with a beautiful smile.
like i said, the little ones are highly resilient. and they physically heal alot faster than adults do.
Hey... phone went a little nutty last night so I don't think my sms went through at all. I'm glad to hear that Anne is such a trooper! Good luck with the antibotics. ;) Hey who knows? Maybe she'll be trooper for this one too. Hope she gets well soon. Take care.
Kids bounce back really fast, i hope Anne gets well soon. While it's normal to wanna point fingers, but what's most important now is to get her all recovered and back to her bubbly endearing self.
Hey Lucian, I just saw the photos on Flickr and didn't realise. Wow, how is her hand? Is it going to be ok? Don't worry, kids are resilient, she'll be fine.
On the other hand, have you been successful in getting those antibiotics down her? I have a few tips if you want to email me.
I'll be praying that her little hand heals quickly.
What a trooper! And what a day it must have been for y'all! Take care, rest well, and we're praying with you and Faith for Anne's recovery... and how about a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down? =) She sure is one tough, brave kid! Do let us know how she's doing.
!!! what a trooper indeed! she'll be picking at those stitches in no time.... that'll be a far bigger challenge than the antibiotics i think! do you do the whole sweet bribery thing? my parents used to do that if i had to take my meds, i'd wind up looking forward to each dosage :X
Oh thank goodness she's alright! You've got a fighter there... :)
I hope she's doing alright now :) it's been sucha long time since I've seen all of you.
Take care, Anne! (and you, and Faith :P)
please take care! anne's a trooper. =)
How is she?
Hey Aldrin,
Anne's ok now, except that she's still not taking her antibiotics willingly, even though the new one we got from the doctor tastes really nice. Her hand is suffering from a bit of infection, so we're basically force-feeding her the medication.
How've you been?
I'm so late with this, but I hope her little paw is healing well!
Hey Lucian!
I'm doing fine. Work's busy but then again, whose work isn't? ;)
Kinda miss the life back in "tuck-suhn" Arizona. Man those were good days. I'm sure you feel the same way ya?
So when's Min coming back? Should be soon right.. Last time I checked she was on the last leg of her work there.
OK man, hope Anne recovers fully. Can't wait (nor imagine) to have one of my own... heh.
Cheers!
