So you go to your local Best Buy, ready to fork out $1200 for that gigantic high-definition television set you saw advertised on their website. You’ve done your research, and Best Buy’s deal is the lowest on the market by a good $200. You walk up to the salesperson and happily proclaim, “$1200 for the television please!”.
“But maam, the sale ended 3 days ago.”
“That can’t be right, I just checked it this morning.”
“Let’s go to one of the internet terminals we have to verify.”
He brings you to one of the many computers in the store connected to the internet and pulls up the webpage. Sure enough, the sale has ended, and the television now costs $1450.
Since you’re already there and have wasted enough of the young man’s time, you end up buying the television. It’s close enough to market price anyway.
Now Best Buy has admitted to having a secret website which is different from the one it puts up on the internet. It looks exactly the same, except for the prices. This website is used by its sales guys to show you that you are mistaken; that the sale has ended.
That you were the idiot who didn’t clear your cache / read the small print / hit refresh.
I used to love Best Buy, but the knife stuck in my back really itches.
Best Buy has fallen out of my good books. What horrid tactics!
After 2 months at the Geekpuke Squad, I am finally getting my HP computer back today. When I dropped it off, I had come from an IT shop that had run diagnostics on it and had found the C drive was bad; I told the Geekiot that I wanted that hard drive back and he said confidently, “No problem. We always give your hard drive back.” I re-iterated that there was private data on it and I wanted it back, not recovered. “Understood. No problem”.
Next week I got a Geek-call telling me that both my hard drives were bad (actually, I had to TELL THEM the machine had 2 drives, not one) and they would NOT return my hard drives. But he was happy to ask (extort) for “$250 and up” for them to “attempt” to recover my data.
So after fighting Best Buy for 2 months, supposedly the famed Geekiots (who never seemed to know what the other Geekiots or corporate said or had done) had replaced the both hard drives once, the motherboard twice, and attempted uncounted numbers of OS re-installs…
I get to see if my computer even works AT ALL! I’m not taking any bets….
I don’t know who told you that BB has different websites to stiff you but they’re smoking some good grass. Those sites are there to reflect changes between time zones and the national level. Most of the morons there use the sales ad anyway, or they use what is called RSS to verify stock and pricing on those nifty little kiosk stations. How the hell would I know? I used to work there (two days ago).
Hey is this your ‘blog’? That’s a sad story. As much as I hate them you’re wrong on that one. Peace
The site on the store computers was on a internal intranet system thru the corporation. The site only reflected store prices not online special prices. Best Buy does claim to match there online prices in store. They were recently sued and have now given access to the BestBuy.com website that is on the internet available for consumers to the in store kiosks. Employees have a option to log in to a national BestBuy.com site or a local one where only store prices are reflected. So make them show you they are clicking on the national web link.employee 2years
Thanks for the clarification James!
YOU THINK BEST BUY SUCKS…???
TRY BEST BUY OUTLET and 2NDTURN, ON EBAY!! Ran by dealtree.com,
Together both companies show off our country’s worst
customer service skills!!! They top the most rude and most unfriendly attitude towards the customer! And American Consumer!!
EBAY CARES little about anything other than how much money they make
off these classless clowns!! So EBAY IS also a BIG part of the problem!!
Dealtree employees will give you the same LOW “CALIFORNIA STYLE”
customer service that you get when you go to a Best (worst) buy retail store.
