Thank you all so much for your suggestions on where to shoot photographs in Singapore. Since we don’t own a car, I’ve been slowly experimenting with various modes of transportation to work and expanding the routes, hopefully encompassing some of the places you’ve brought up.
Here are a few shots from this morning, just downstairs from where I live.

They've already been HDRed. :) I didn't want to heavy a hdr touch, so I guess I succeeded?

Believe it or not, that KFC in your picture has been around for more than 20 years and the Mac used to be taken over by old chains like A&W (anyone remember the famous root beer).
Hi Bernard, the paint on KFC is beginning to show its age. It's a pity about A&W. They had the best curly fries, root beer, coney dogs and waffles with ice cream.
